Rockaway Ventures is built by founders who understand what it takes to solve hard problems and build valuable companies. We focus on high-conviction investments at Seed to Series A. As we dive deeper into AI, B2B software, and industrial tech, we’re searching for VC Hacker – a colleague who thinks like an engineer, naturally understands how products are built and where real technical leverage comes from.
We look for someone who can evaluate technical products and connect deeply with the engineers who build them. Furthermore, we believe modern venture capital is a technology game itself. You won’t just be investing in technology; you will be building it internally to give our fund a competitive edge—using APIs, scrapers, and AI to hack our deal flow and automate our workflows.
What you’ll do (Responsibilities)
- Hack VC Workflows: Actively build and deploy internal tools (using APIs, web scrapers, or vibe coding applications) to automate workflows from startup screening to investment memo preparation
- Source & Scout: Identify visionary technical founders across Europe and the US (using the AI/data tools developed & own network) who are building meaningful technological advantages
- Evaluate Tech & Teams: Meet with founding teams to assess their products and architectures, focusing on the technical viability of AI and software solutions
- Deep-Dive Due Diligence: Go under the hood of target companies to understand their codebase, AI models, and technical moats, translating those findings into actionable investment recommendations
- Support the Portfolio: Work hands-on with our existing portfolio companies, helping them navigate product, technical, or scaling challenges
What we’re looking for (Must-haves)
- Technical Depth & Builder Mindset: Background in Computer Science, software engineering, data science, or related field, with hands-on experience building technical products (e.g., coding, training AI models, building apps)
- Entrepreneurial Drive: Hacker mindset. Whether you’ve co-founded a startup, participated in hackathons, or built your own side projects, you have an independent drive to create
- Data Engineering: Proven ability to work with fragmented public and proprietary datasets, APIs, scraping workflows, and enrichment pipelines to generate structured insights and scalable workflows
- Applied AI/ML fluency: Strong practical understanding of modern AI/ML systems, including how models are built, evaluated, deployed, and where their limitations lie enough to both build internal AI-enabled workflows and assess AI-native startups credibly
- Analytical Storytelling: Ability to synthesize technical research into a clear investment narrative
- Excellent English: Professional proficiency in English to communicate with global founders & co-investors
Nice to Have
- Previous experience in venture capital, tech consulting, or a fast-growing startup environment
- Familiarity with modern AI deployment (LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering) and rapid prototyping tools
- An existing network within the developer, AI, or startup communities
What you will get
- Competitive salary + performance bonus tied to deal flow impact
- Carry opportunities in our high-conviction portfolio.
- Strong support for continuous learning (courses, events, hackathons)
- Modern Prague office (Dejvice) with flexible hybrid model + occasional US/EU travel
- Fully stocked fridge with snacks and ice cream freezer, 4 weeks vacation + team retreats (EduLunch, skiing, company breakfast)
- Fully covered Multisport card
- informal, founder-friendly team with direct GP access and real ownership
