This fall’s Money Talks was all about capital markets

What sort of fall would it be for Rockaway without Money Talks? This time around, we held this traditional event, where our teams meet with portfolio colleagues and guests from partner companies, at a tested location with a singular atmosphere: Žofín Restaurant by STONES Catering. This time around, the key theme of the entire evening was “Capital Markets”. We heard panel discussions by our partners from J&T Bank, J&T Investment Company, LYNX Broker, and WOOD & Company.

By way of introduction, Rockaway Legal Counsel and the evening’s MC Lucie Kubínyiová talked with financial director Jaromír Švihovský, who summarized what had occurred in the investment group in the past year, what was in store in the near future, and why Capital Markets were the theme of the evening. Next came J&T Banka’s chief economist, Petr Sklenář, who explained how capital markets work, the relationship between interest rates and valuation, and current investor mood. He was followed by the CEO of J&T Investment Company, Tomáš Martinec, who in his presentation described how expectations are formed on capital markets and the influence of psychology on the “boom & bust” cycle.
Professional Clients Manager Ondřej Likeš from LYNX Broker gave a presentation on GameStop, whose shares rocketed overnight in 2021, shaking up global markets and sending even large hedge funds of well-known activist investors to their knees. He also explained the basic principles of short selling, margin calls, and so on.
Next up were our partners from WOOD & Company. Investment Banking Manager Oliver Polyák and Managing Director David Tajzich jointly explained how the Prague Stock Exchange works and its function in the context of transactions on regional capital markets. Finally, Sales Director Petr Beneš explained where one should invest during times of high inflation to provide an investment anchor in uncertain times, and how to put together a long-term portfolio.
The evening ended with a networking session with excellent catering by Stones, accompanied by music played by Evropa 2 radio DJ Petr Říba.
